This Lunch Seminar will be held exceptionally in Japanese, without translation. Discussion will pursue in both Japanese and English. 

Profile
Hamada Jinzaburô is a urban planner, director of the NPO research center Fukkô Machizukuri.

He introduced the Countainer Houses in Kobe after the 1995 earthquake and created the concept of “temporary city area.” He took part in the conception of disaster restoration plans in different areas of Tokyo, as well as in Pakistan. He conducted surveys among victims of disasters in Turkey, Taiwan, China (Sichuan) and supported restoration after the recent earthquakes in Niigata and Tôhoku. 

For the Lunch Seminar, Hamada Jinzaburô will start with the presentation of his concept of “temporary city area,” which was first developped after the Great Hanshin Earthquake in 1995. He will then present cases of setting up of temporary city areas after the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and tsunami and underline how to put into practice the renewal of communities.
