Actualité de Valérie Gelézeau: communication au colloque Negociating Asian Borderlands (Taipei National University)
[Recherche] - mardi 13 janvier 2026
On 13 January 2026, I participated in the IIAS Asian Borderlands Research Network Conference in Taipei, which was co-organised by the IIAS and Taiwan National University. I presented my research on the DMZ again in the form of a paper entitled ‘Along the Korean DMZ Peace Trail: “Walking my research” to unfold the discontinuous territories of the borderlands’. Since 2024, I have been walking along the 500 km “DMZ Peace Trail” (DMZ Pyeonghwa-eui Gil), which follows the “Civilian Control Line” close to the Korean DMZ in the border region.
Why do I do that? How? What can be learnt about ‘negotiating Asian borders’ (the theme of the conference) in the process?
I discussed how the ‘walking my research’ method enables different ‘regimes of knowledge’ to be combined and presented the protocol of a survey conducted on the move. I concluded with a few examples illustrating the new analysis of borderlands that this method might facilitate (book in progress).
