Abstract : The trends in the number of ‘international or cross-nationality marriages’ (kokusai kekkon) reflect a transformation in Japanese society. In this Spring Japan became a signatory country of the Hague Convention that is a multinational treaty designed to provide an expeditious method for returning children abducted from one participating nation to another. This lunch seminar will focus on issues on ‘international’ marriage as well as divorce.
Profil : Itsuko Kamoto is a sociologist and a professor at the Faculty of the Study of the Contemporary Society of Kyoto Women’s University, Japan. Her main theme has been the emergence and transformation of the relationship between cross-nationality marriage and Japanese society.
